Planned Giving
At this crucial juncture in our long history of helping the Jewish people live—not simply survive—in some of the harshest environments abroad, your support can help ensure that JDC is prepared to aid Jewish people whenever and wherever they are in need.
Planned giving is an excellent way to realize your philanthropic goals while fulfilling personal and family objectives, including tax benefits. Best of all, your planned gift to JDC can be customized to meet your needs and objectives, thereby creating a legacy for yourself and for your family while making you an integral and important part of the future of the Jewish people.
Working in conjunction with JDC and your local Federation, you can choose a gift or program utilizing a wide variety of Planned Giving vehicles.
Bequests
Bequests to JDC ensure that your philanthropic goals will be met and will provide you with a lasting legacy. Often, the wisest course of action is the simplest one: just include a bequest in your new will or add a simple codicil (amendment) to your existing will.
Life Income Plans
Life income plans, such as charitable remainder trusts, provide an opportunity for you to diversify and increase your income while entitling you to substantial tax savings during your lifetime and through your estate. You can make a gift of an asset in trust to JDC and at the same time arrange for fixed or variable payments to be made for a term of years or for life to you or a loved one.
Charitable Gift Annuities
Charitable gift annuities provide advantages for both the donor and JDC. The donor makes a gift and receives a guaranteed payment for life and a charitable income tax deduction. The payout is based on the age of the donor, and often, a portion of a charitable gift annuity payout is tax free.
Deferred Payment Gift Annuities
Deferred payment gift annuities can increase retirement income by allowing the donor to postpone the starting date of the annuity for a specified period of time. These are attractive planning tools for those planning their retirement, as well as for children who would like to provide funds for their parents’ retirement.
Philanthropic Funds or Supporting Foundations
You may choose to establish a philanthropic fund or a supporting foundation. These options enable you to maintain involvement with JDC and its programs, and they provide you with access to the knowledgeable, sound, and efficient management of JDC.
Other planned giving vehicles available through JDC that enable donors who wish to make use of the incentives in the tax code while meeting their family’s and their own philanthropic goals include:
Charitable Lead Trusts
Charitable lead trusts, as opposed to charitable remainder trusts, enable the donor to set aside assets that provide income immediately for charity for a term of years and then either return the assets to the donor—who may have earned an accelerated charitable income tax deduction—or transfer the assets to heirs, with possible reduced gift and estate taxes.
Retained Life Estates
Retained life estates enable the gifting of one’s primary residence while retaining the right to live there. The donor is responsible for taxes and maintenance but qualifies for an income tax deduction based on the value of the property and the donor’s age.
Outright Gifts of Assets
Outright gifts of assets such as cash, stocks and bonds, mutual funds, life insurance, pension assets, real estate and gifts of art can be part of your philanthropy, initiating support for a major project and strengthening JDC and the Jewish people for the future.
If you would like to discuss establishing a planned gift, let JDC know. JDC will work with you, your family, and your advisers to make sure your gift will work the hardest to address the needs that are most critical to you.
